Guiding Futures:
Career Mentorship at St. Elizabeth Girls SS Mityana
On
7th September 2025, Rotarians and Rotaractors from across several clubs united
at St. Elizabeth Girls Secondary School in Mityana for a day dedicated to
shaping dreams and guiding futures. The initiative, hosted by the Rotary Club
of Bwebajja in collaboration with partner clubs, offered career guidance to
hundreds of young girls eager to understand the paths that lie ahead.
For
many students, career choices often come without adequate information, leaving
them vulnerable to uncertainty or decisions that do not align with their true
potential. Recognizing this gap, the project team worked closely with teachers,
parents, and community leaders to identify what the students needed most:
exposure, mentorship, and practical skills for planning their futures.
During
the sessions, professionals and Rotarians shared personal journeys across
diverse fields including law, medicine, entrepreneurship, and the creative
arts. The students engaged actively, asking questions, exploring options, and
learning about educational pathways required to achieve their ambitions. They
also benefited from practical workshops on resume writing, networking, and the
importance of aligning passion with purpose.
The
impact of the program was evident in the confidence the girls displayed as they
discussed their dreams with mentors. Teachers noted that many students left the
sessions more motivated, equipped with clearer goals, and a stronger sense of
direction. Beyond individual growth, the initiative also planted seeds for
long-term community change. Empowered young women will not only contribute to
the workforce in the years ahead but will also serve as role models for future
generations.
To
ensure sustainability, the school has introduced ongoing career training
workshops and appointed a Career Ambassador from its alumni to provide pro bono
mentorship. Plans are also underway to train teachers to better support
students in career planning, while the alumni network will continue to invite
graduates back to share their experiences.
The
Career Guidance initiative at St. Elizabeth Girls SS Mityana reaffirmed
Rotary’s commitment to Basic Education and Literacy by ensuring education
extends beyond the classroom into real-world preparation. With mentorship,
knowledge, and encouragement, these young women are now better positioned to
pursue their aspirations, contribute to society, and inspire others to do the
same.
