Medical Camp at Mityana,Sekayonyi
Healing Hand
On
6th September 2025, the Rotary and Rotaract family came together with health
partners to host a transformative Medical Camp at Ssekanyonyi Health Centre
IV in Mityana District. What unfolded was a powerful demonstration of
Rotary’s commitment to Disease Prevention and Treatment, bringing
essential health services directly to the heart of the community.
The
initiative began with a joint needs assessment by Rotarians and health
officials, which revealed that Ssekanyonyi carried some of the highest health
burdens in the district—including HIV prevalence, malaria cases, and maternal
deliveries. Its location also made it a referral point for surrounding
districts like Kasanda, Mpigi, and Wakiso. With such pressing needs, it was
clear this was where Rotary’s action could create the greatest impact.
The
medical camp reached over 1,200 people with a broad range of services. Patients
received general consultations and treatment for chronic conditions such as
hypertension and diabetes. Mothers accessed antenatal care and obstetric scans,
while children were immunized against preventable diseases. Specialized
services included eye screening with provision of glasses, dental care,
reproductive health services, and health education sessions. Screenings for
cancer, HIV, TB, malaria, and hepatitis ensured that life-threatening
conditions could be detected early and managed appropriately. Mosquito nets and
mama kits were also distributed, extending protection beyond the camp itself.
For
many community members, this was their first time receiving such comprehensive
medical attention. The gratitude was visible in every smile—relief for the
mother reassured by an ultrasound scan, joy for the child whose vision was
restored with glasses, and hope for families who left with knowledge and
resources to live healthier lives.
The
camp’s impact goes far beyond a single day. Medical records and follow-up plans
were handed over to the health centre team, ensuring continuity of care. By
involving local stakeholders from the beginning, the project-built trust,
ownership, and sustainability. The partnerships forged—between Rotary clubs,
health institutions, and community leaders—have laid a foundation for stronger
healthcare systems in the region.
The
Medical Camp at Ssekanyonyi was a testament to what happens when compassion
meets collaboration. Rotary’s investment of time, skills, and resources turned
a vision of healthier communities into reality. It was a reminder that service,
when delivered with dedication, has the power to heal, uplift, and inspire.
